Hi, I'm Kirsten!
Bird Cherry comes from the Swedish translation of my last name Hegstrom - “hagg” bird cherry + “strom” river. We named our dog River, so my design company got Bird Cherry!
One of the main style elements of my work is vectorized doodles. I have used doodling as way to either focus or disappear since I was a kid. I used doodles to inspire art while in college, and even doodled yesterday at work while estimating a large job. Most of the patterns you will see in this portfolio originated as little doodles created in the margins of my day. The moments that seem mundane end up to be the most meaningful in the end!
If you were to ask me what my absolute dream career would be, I would tell you "a little bit of everything". I am a surface designer with an aptitude for construction and interior styling. I'm a neuro-divergent doodle bug who likes the "slower pace" of homesteading.  However, the main focus for Bird Cherry is repeat patterns and textile design. I hope to license to fashion and textile companies and see my art on clothing, bedding, and other home goods. I am incredibly inspired by the whimsical nature of children, and I want my art to reflect the beautiful imperfections and genuine magic of everyday life.
I live in the forests of New Hampshire with my husband and our two little boys. Inspiration finds me daily, and it’s my greatest desire to share my perspective with the world. I hope you enjoy!
