Hi, I'm Kirsten!
Bird Cherry comes from the Swedish translation of my last name Hegstrom - “hagg” bird cherry + “strom” river. We named our dog River, so my design company got Bird Cherry! I live in the forests of New Hampshire with my husband and our two little boys. Inspiration finds me daily, and it’s my greatest desire to share my perspective with the world.
My process of creating is uniquely human. It starts in the subconscious and evolves out of pure curiosity and play. This is to say, I doodle a lot.
In a world of artificial intelligence and manufactured authenticity, I think it’s important, more than ever, to stay connected to the raw experience of being alive. I want my art to reflect the beautiful imperfections and genuine magic of everyday life. And in the darkest times, art and joy are acts of rebellion.
I don’t strive to shock, awe, or reinvent the metaphorical wheel. I don’t strive for perfection. I strive to create familiarity and connection - that almost giddy feeling of being “seen”. Even if you are connecting with a throw pillow on a department store shelf, it’s a wonderful moment.
